What’s New in March: Dairy Ice Cream Innovations

As the 2022 ice cream season kicks off in the Northern Hemisphere, we are having a blast discovering all of them. Here are eleven new dairy ice cream products which have appeared in our freezer aisles this month.


We are particularly intrigued by the new triple cheese donut ice cream pint (yes, you read that right) by Lola Nena’s which makes our March Dairy Pick Of The Month. Keep reading to learn more about this unusual flavour along with ten other ice cream innovations.

NEW TRENDS

The McFreddo is coming to Argentina and Uruguay

McDonald’s has teamed up with ice cream store ‘Freddo’ to launch two new ice cream pints called ‘Gelato Crunch’. With two flavours of the pint: ‘Dulce de Leche Temptation’ [Dulce de Leche Tentación] and ‘Chocolate Temptation’ [Chocolate Tentación], the products will be available through the McDelivery platform in Argentina and Uruguay. Topped with a crunchy hazelnut-chocolate layer, the pints are made with artisanal ice cream and free from any artificial flavours or colours.

Cosmic Bliss Adds Dairy Ice Cream to Range, USA

Previously known as Coconut Bliss, Cosmic Bliss has launched their first ever line of organic, sustainably-sourced and grass-fed dairy ice cream products! While most dairy ice cream companies are adding plant-based options into their portfolios, Cosmis Bliss are turning the tables and moving from a solely plant-based frozen dessert company to now include dairy ice cream options as well.

Featuring 14oz pints retailing at $8.99 per pint, there are seven flavours in the range which can be found in US stores such as Sprouts, Wegmans, Erewhon Stores, and Natural Grocers nationwide. The seven flavours are:

- Twisted Cookie Dough

- Peanut Butter Blitz

- Hazelnut Fudge Crunch

- Strawberry Lemon Shortbread

- Banana Caramel Flambé

- Vanilla Bean Nirvana

- Chocolate Euphoria

ICEE is now available in Ice Cream Cookie Format, USA

Popular frozen beverage company, ICEE are making waves in the ice cream industry with their new ICEE Sandwich Crème Filled Cookies. The Sandwiches will be available exclusively at Kroger stores in the US for $3.29 per pack and come in two flavours based on the two classic ICEE flavours: Cherry and Blue Raspberry. They feature buttery vanilla wafers with sweet ICEE flavoured crème in the middle.

PRODUCT LINE EXTENSIONS / RENOVATIONS

White Rabbit Launches New Bar in Singapore

Bright Dairy & Food Co. Ltd. along with Shanghai Guan Sheng Yuan Food Ltd. joined forces to launch a new White Rabbit ice-cream flavour: Peanuts Nougat. The flavour can be found in 5-packs at Hao Food’s official stores on Shopee and Lazada for S$12.50 (€8.30 / $9.20 USD) per pack. The product is also available at selected FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Xpress, and Cheers convenience stores across China.

Sundae Cones are Enlightened’s Newest Feel-Good Dessert, USA

Enlightened have launched yet another feel-good dessert with their new lower sugar Sundae Cones. Featuring a crispy cone filled with ice cream and topped with nuts and a chocolate drizzle with a classic fudge-filled tip, the cones are made with monk fruit and have as little as 6g of sugar and only 140 calories per cone.

They are available to purchase in packs of 3 at an RRP of $5.99 in US supermarkets, including Sprouts Farmers Market, Shoprite, Walmart, H.E.B., and Stop & Shop, as well as via Enlightened’s online store. The cones come in five flavours, two of which are made with a greek yoghurt base:

- Caramel Fudge

- Vanilla Fudge

- Peanut Butter Fudge

- Vanilla Honey featuring a honey core [Greek Yoghurt]

- Caramel Dark Chocolate Almond Butter featuring an almond butter core [Greek Yoghurt]

Godiva can now be found in US freezers

Godiva in the US have partnered with Boardwalk Frozen Treats to launch a range of seven super-premium ice cream pints inspired by Godiva’s most loved chocolate flavours. The flavours are:

- Caramel Embrace Ice Cream: Vanilla ice cream with milk chocolate caramel swirl, and milk chocolate caramel cups.

- Midnight Swirl Ice Cream: Dark chocolate ice cream with a fudge swirl and dark chocolatey flakes.

- Salted Caramel Brownie Ice Cream: Chocolate ice cream with salted caramel swirl and baked brownie pieces.

- Mint Medallion Ice Cream: White mint ice cream with fudge swirl and dark chocolatey flakes.

- Chocolate Strawberry Ice Cream: Strawberry ice cream with strawberry pieces, dark chocolatey swirl, and dark chocolatey flakes.

- Praline Cone Crunch Ice Cream: Chocolate ice cream with dipped waffle cone pieces, almond praline crunchies, and chocolate ribbon

- Hazelnut Crunch Ice Cream: Vanilla ice cream with chocolatey hazelnut swirl and crunchy hazelnut brittle pieces.

Godiva’s new gourmet ice cream range can be found throughout many major US grocery stores including Albertsons, Safeway, Kroger, Publix and many others at an RRP of $5.49 USD.

Cadbury’s Adds Darkmilk to Ice Cream Range, UK


Cadbury’s UK ice cream portfolio is growing thanks to the newest addition: Cadbury Darkmilk. A creamy vanilla ice cream filled with an equally creamy and rich chocolate centre, the product will be sold in 4-packs at major UK retailers at an RRP of £3.00 (€3.5 / $3.92 USD).

Brunhilde Van Antwerp, UK head of marketing for Cadbury ice cream, told Retail Times: “At Cadbury ice cream, we wanted to introduce a product that caters specifically for more grown-up taste buds looking for a richer chocolate taste experience.”

Chapmans Launch Ten New Products in Canada

Chapmans have just launched a whopping ten new frozen treats for the Canadian market. Under their No Sugar Added Lactose Free Collection, Canadian consumers can now get their hands on two 1L tubs in ‘Coffee & Chocolate’ and ‘Salty Caramel & Peanuts’ flavours as well as two new No Sugar Added Lactose Free ice cream bars (55ml): a Vanilla Ice Cream Bar with a Chocolatey Coating and a Vanilla Ice Cream Bar with a Chocolatey Coating and Almonds.

Additionally, the brand has also launched a new 2L tub of Cherry Peach Passion Sorbet, and two 2L frozen yoghurt tubs of Canadian Peaches & Cream and Canadian Blueberries & Cream flavours.

Finally, under the Original Ice Cream Collection, there will be three new additions: Cotton Candy Checkerboard, Coffee Chip, and Maple Crunch, all of which are manufactured in a nut free, peanut free and gluten free facility, making them accessible for consumers with food allergies.

NEW & SURPRISING FLAVOURS / SHAPES

Limited Edition Triple Cheese Donut Pint, Philippines

Lola Nena’s in the Philippines have turned their famous triple cheese donut into an ice cream flavour thanks to a partnership with Merry Moo. The ice cream pint contains real donut bits and savoury cheese pieces, and can be purchased from select Lola Nena stores in the Philippines as well as from the Merry Moo website for ₱450.00 (€7.80 / $8.66 USD).

Floral Flavours for Haagen Dazs, UK

Honey & Peach with Rose is Haagen-Dazs’ new flavour in the UK this Spring. With swirls of honey and floral undertones, this is not the first floral-infused ice cream that the brand have launched. They released Lychee, Raspberry and Rose, and Apricot and Lavender back in 2016. The newest addition will be available exclusively at Waitrose in the UK for a price of £4.95 per 460ml container.

Pizza Ice Cream Comes to Walmart, USA

Walmart will be the exclusive partners for Brooklyn-born ice cream brand, Van Leewuen’s newest controversial flavour: Pizza Ice Cream. Featuring a cream cheese and mozzarella base, the limited-edition pizza pint will contain tomato jam swirls and basil crust cookies throughout. The 14oz tub will be retailing for $4.98 USD at 3,500 Walmart stores in the US for 10 weeks this Spring.
