A Sweet Surprise: BeaverTails™ Pastry partners with Planeteer to test Edible Spoons

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

Eating your favorite dessert is about to get even sweeter — for consumers and the environment. With the help of Innodelice, the beloved Canadian dessert brand BeaverTails is partnering with Planeteer to test out edible spoons. The partnership will allow consumers to have their treats and eat their spoons, too, making it a zero-waste treat.

Planeteer developed the edible vegan, non-GMO spoons in 2017 in response to the plastic waste crisis (learn more on Incr’Edible Spoons here). By some estimates there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050 and Planeteer wanted to work with food service partners to help find a solution.

It's a win-win situation where a vendor, business and consumer are all happy while reducing single-use plastics usage,” said Dinesh Tadepalli, Chief Spoon Seller & Co-Founder at Planeteer.

BeaverTails CEO Pino Di Ioia said the company loved that the spoons were sustainable in a uniquely indulgent way.

Our ice cream is so craveable you’ll want to eat the spoon,” Di Ioia said.

Customers won’t have to scream for an edible spoon with their pastries and ice cream. Beginning in May (when the ice finally thaws in Canada), they will automatically receive an edible spoon with any ice cream or a la mode purchase at BeaverTails locations in Mont Tremblant, Old Montreal, Old Quebec and Six Flags LaRonde.

After you eat your dessert and spoon, BeaverTails plans to ask you for their feedback on social media and in-person to determine whether it’s a sweet success.

We are proud to have created a global network that allows partners around the world to connect and create collaborative partnerships that enable mutual growth”, said Andrea Montreuil, founding partner of Innodelice. “This particular collaboration has the additional benefit of helping businesses and consumers reduce their environmental footprint. Innodelice, Planeteer and BeaverTails are doing their part. I now count on my fellow Canadian citizens to full-heartedly support the test and make it a success.”

Other brands and people can gobble up edible spoons, too. Business partners can find more information on Planeteer’s edible spoon and how to add it to their business here .
